Presentation of the 13th ICRS

13th  International Conference on Social Representations

"Epistemologies of everyday life"
14-17 september 2016
Palais du Pharo, Marseille, France

Honorary President : Pr. Alain Clémence

This conference will be very special for several reasons. First of all, this is the first edition of this international congress since the decease of Serge Moscovici (1925-2014), founder of the theory of social representations. The 13th ICSR will be therefore an opportunity to pay tribute to this great theorist of social psychology and social sciences.

Besides this very special tribute that it will make to its founder, this ICSR edition will also aim to raise the awareness about the pertinence of this theory to achieving a better understanding of the social dynamics permeating the everyday realities in the Mediterranean region. It will be an opportunity to organize reflexive spaces about identity, health and social challenges, migration routes and cultural diversity brought together researchers from different Mediterranean countries (Algeria, Spain, France, Greece, Italy, Tunisia, etc.) working with the paradigm of social representations.

This ICSR edition also intends to organise reflexive and debate spaces that will favour the mutual enrichment between the social psychology of social representations and other theoretical currents of social psychology.

§  Organization of Scientific Activities of the 13th CIRS  §

Six modalities of scientific activities are proposed as part of the scientific program of the 13th CIRS: conferences (CONF), symposia (SYMP), round-tables (RT), oral communication sessions (OCS), poster sessions (PS) and plenary sessions (PLS).

(1) Conferences (CONF)

The conferences aim to discuss issues concerning the social representations in connection with other fields of knowledge, in order to promote a theoretical debate in the field of social representations, and more broadly, in that of social psychology. The program of the 13th CIRS includes five conferences:

  • Pr. Martha Augoustinos, University of Adelaide, Australia
  • Pr. Gérald Bronner, Université Paris Diderot, Institut Universitaire de France
  • Pr. Alain Clemence, Université de Lausanne, Switzerland
  • Pr. Pascal Moliner, Université de Montpellier, France
  • Pr. Fatima Santos, Universidade de Pernambuco (UFPE), Brazil

(2) Symposia (SYMP)

The symposia will be proposed by the Organizing Committee of the 13th CIRS. In connection with the themes of the conference, 16 symposia will be organized directly in relation with the Organising Committee. These symposia will assemble from three to four researchers. Symposia are intended to deepen specific theoretical and methodological issues raised from the theory of social representations, as well as the contribution of the social representations perspective for the understanding of contemporary issues.

(3) Round Tables (RT)

Round-tables will receive discussions over topics of general interest that are particularly important for the contemporary theoretical and methodological debates in the field of social representations. Round-tables are the object of a submission in the context this call for papers. Each round-table will assemble four speakers from at least two different institutions. Each presentation will dispose of 20 minutes, followed by 5 minutes of discussion.

(4) Oral Communications Sessions (OCS)

The oral communication sessions are devoted to the presentation of works that are individually submitted to this call for papers. The sessions of oral communications will be organized by the Scientific Committee of the conference. Sessions will assemble five or six speakers and will be coordinated by a member of the Scientific Committee. Each communication will dispose of 15 minutes, followed by 5 minutes of discussion.

(5) Poster Sessions (PS)

The poster communications sessions will assemble the presentations of works submitted under this modality in the context of the call for papers. Posters will be presented during specific sessions.

(6) Plenary Sessions (PLS)

Two plenary sessions will be proposed by the conference Organizing Committee together with the REMOSCO Network. The goal of these plenary sessions is to favor the debate around the contribution of the work of Serge Moscovici for human and social sciences.
